Ripples

About this photo

A solitary swan floating on gently rippling water.

This photograph was the result of patience and timing, waiting for the moment the swan turned towards me as it surfaced from the water. The angle of its head and the small droplets falling from its beak, rippling the surface below, became an unexpected bonus. There was originally a hint of colour in the beak, but stripping that back allowed the image to settle naturally into monochrome, where the framing and contrast spoke for themselves.

The monochrome composition highlights repeating ripple patterns. Minimal framing centres the subject in a calm, balanced scene.
